Posted on: September 28th, 2020 by Liz Wedekind

When running an organization and building with tons of offices, entrances, closets and more, the chance of these doors being accessed by multiple people is incredibly high. When multiple people have multiple keys to various places, the organization is at risk of any one of these keys being duplicated and available to the wrong hands. It is impossible to change locks every time someone new joins or an old employee leaves.

So…just how often should an organization look for a locksmith to rekey their locks? It really varies from organization to organization.

Some factors include:

All these factors contribute to determining when it is best to rekey the locks. If a card access system is out of the question, you must take steps to ensure your organization is protected against external or even internal threats. This includes copying, duplicating, sharing, etc.

Installing high security locks and keys that have patented protection against unauthorized duplication, picking and other means of bypassing the lock is another option that can be implemented to reduce loss.

You don’t want to risk an old employee being able to access various building entry points. Because of this, think of rekeying your locks anywhere between 6 months to 2 years. All these factors contribute to determining when it is best to rekey the locks.
